Chapter Thirty-Two

Dad wasn't happy about me hanging out with those guys. However, he was thrilled that we were home by ten on a Friday night. As I headed to get ready for bed, I saw Linda mouth the words, "Thank you," at me. There was just one problem. I'd forgotten my brand-new Kindle at Bax's place. Everything had ended too fast, and I'd left it charging on the counter.

I tried to tell myself it wasn't a big deal as I took a shower and did my normal evening routine, but I kept worrying about it. Mostly because I would've loved to curl up with a good book, but I also hated the idea of making Bax feel like I'd taken advantage of him. I decided I should say something about that so he didn't get the impression I wasn't happy. I honestly was. He hadn't simply gotten me the cheap version, but the really nice one that was perfect for me.

Granted, it was Bax, and I knew he was rich, but he'd also taken the effort to do a little research, and that was what made me think it was the best present ever. He'd put in a lot of effort to be nice to me, the least I could do was text him.

Jess: Hey, Deke broke up the party too fast, and I left my new toy! I'm so bummed.
